If you have concerns about the care provided, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Many families have expressed serious concerns regarding the quality of care given by Yaser Jabbar.

What is happening?

The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children is conducting an urgent review of the cases of 721 children treated by Yaser Jabbar, an ex Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon that worked at the hospital’s lower limb reconstruction service from 2017 until he stepped down in September last year.

Yaser Jabbar, whose license to practise medicine in the UK was revoked in January, was reported to be an expert in limb reconstruction and has been found to have performed a number of operations whose outcomes have seriously harmed children.

Background

Back in 2022, The Great Ormond Street hospital asked the Royal College of Surgeons to perform a review of their paediatric orthopaedic service following a number of complaints from patients’ families. The subsequent report produced from this review highlighted failings and specifically raised concerns about Yaser Jabbar.  This triggered the current investigation into the care he provided to children from 2017 to 2022.

All the families of his former patients have been notified about the review which has already revealed that at least 22 children out of the 39 cases investigated so far have suffered serious harm because of his actions. Concerns raised include performing unnecessary operations as well as the ex-clinician’s incorrect usage of limb lengthening devices which have allegedly resulted into his patients suffering life-long preventable injuries.

Jackie Linehan, Legal Director at Enable Law said ‘We put our faith in the medical profession and in most cases our faith is rewarded. When we put that faith in someone on behalf of our children and something goes wrong, we can carry huge guilt that we didn’t do the right thing. Getting answers can help come to terms with what has happened’.
