Bernadette McGhieExecutive Director
My background as a general and paediatric nurse provides me with a great advantage when acting for claimants in medical litigation, and forms the basis of my special interest in paediatric and birth injury cases.
- 'Exceptional and personal service...I cannot recommend Bernadette highly enough.'
- "Fantastic; nothing was too much and she was supportive the whole way through."
- 'Thank you for all your hard work to achieve this great result. Life ahead seems less worrying knowing there will be extra help.'
I specialise in brain injuries, including birth-related neurological damage and maternal injury.
Prior to training as a solicitor, I qualified as a general and paediatric nurse and enjoyed a very successful clinical career for many years. I am also a member of national charity Baby Lifeline’s multi-professional advisory panel (MPAP). I also have a special interest in cases involving the prescription of Sodium Valproate in pregnancy resulting in foetal abnormalities.
Led the investigations to achieve a substantial settlement on liability for a client who suffered a brain injury during his birth, resulting in cerebral palsy.
Took on a case from another firm of solicitors and successfully settled the matter out of court for a multi-million pound sum, which will allow my brain-injured client to live a more independent life (Ganz v Childs & Ors EWHC 13 (QB) 11/01/2011)
I conduct a busy caseload, including a wide range of high-value birth injury and maternal damage claims.
I was a Trustee of the Meningitis Trust for many years and, building on this and my nursing experience, I maintain a firm interest in meningitis.
I am also an AvMA Clinical Negligence Panel member.
