Mental Capacity

Managing Associate

“I believe my experience as a personal injury lawyer allows me to offer a unique insight into the procedures and processes involved and this allows me to support those clients with ongoing litigated claims.”

I am a Managing Associate within the Mental Capacity Team at Enable Law. I have worked within Court of Protection and Mental Capacity Law, since 2011. Prior to this, I practised personal injury law for over 15 years, and I believe my experience as a personal injury lawyer allows me to offer a unique insight into the procedures and processes involved and this allows me to support those clients with ongoing litigated claims.

As a senior member of the team, my role involves overseeing the day-to-day management of those clients with complex needs. This may include the purchase of property, the adaptation (if required) of property to meet a person’s needs, the implementation of a care package, investment of funds, implementing care and advising upon other relevant matters such as applications regarding gifting and statutory wills as an example.

I strongly believe in building strong relationships with my clients as well as their families and those other professionals providing ongoing support.

I have been fortunate to have acted for a wide range of clients during my career, from children to older persons and welcome the opportunity to support those clients who may be considered more challenging behaviours due to their lack of capacity.

I am a senior member of The Professional Deputy Forum

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and enjoy the great outdoors especially, winter breaks snowboarding and mountain biking in the summer. I also play the bass guitar and enjoy supporting my son’s band.

Career Highlights

Acting for child who suffered birth injuries and received an interim award of £2m and damages over his lifetime that would total £8m.

Supporting a young female drug addict who had suffered head injury following a motorcycle accident. The client lived in a caravan and was being financially and physically abused by her partner. The client was supported to enter drug rehabilitation and when she was discharged, to move into a rented property where she was more secure and able to engage more independently.

Acting for a male in his 50’s who was a keen cyclist and suffered injury following a road traffic accident. The client was very low after his accident, he was very reluctant to engage with the team supporting him. This was due to the expectation that he would not be able to participate in his pre-accident activities and hobbies. Specialist therapy and support was identified to enable the client to go out and socialise with his friends, watch football and play golf.

Acting for a child who was significantly disabled to move into a property that would meet his needs whilst also having a minimal environmental impact. This involved lengthy discussions with the architect, construction company family and the care team to find the best eco-friendly alternatives.

Acting for a child who was a big football fan and who wanted to decorate his bedroom like his favourite team’s stadium. This was achieved and as a bonus it was arranged for the child’s favourite footballer to autograph items to be displayed in his room.
