What is happening?
A campaign group called Families Failed by Oxford University Hospital (OUH) Maternity Services have recently taken their call for a judge-led public independent inquiry into the maternity services of the John Radcliffe Hospital public. The group members are families whose lives have been turned upside down following alleged medical negligence and failings, including preventable deaths, traumatic birthing experiences, denied caesareans and suffering from PTSD.
According to their records, there have been over 500 families impacted by failures taking place in the maternity unit going back over 15 years.
At Enable Law we have a number of past and present clients whose traumatic birthing experience and often devastating consequences have led them to take legal action against the hospital.
Sadly these failures are not just limited to the maternity unit.
Our baby loss team recently represented a family in relation to their claim against Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) in relation to the death of their baby 1 week after birth.
The family’s premature baby was delivered in John Radcliffe Hospital. The baby was healthy, but small and needed some help breathing, so was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit. The baby was stabilised and ventilated for a week before the decision was made to take away the breathing supports as the baby was thought to be well. On removal of the breathing apparatus, the baby started to struggle to breathe and, sadly, died later that day following delayed intervention.
Following an Inquest and legal investigations, the claim was settled by OUH.
How we can help
At Enable Law we have decades of experience representing families who have been let down by negligent care received before during or after birth. Our experts often subspecialise in a particular medical area meaning they have very niche expertise acquired by having supported multiple clients who have been failed in similar ways. This knowledge means we are best placed to help families going through some of the most challenging and traumatic times of their lives to get answers about what may have happened and help them seek justice. If you have been impacted by substandard medical care don’t suffer in silence. Give us a call on 0800 044 8488 or fill in our contact form here so we can call you back at a time convenient for you and explore ways we may be able to help. All initial discussions are free of charge and strictly confidential. We will always treat you with respect in the most empathetic way possible and do our best to help you.
