I am a member of the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers and have been acting for survivors of abuse be it sexual, emotional or physical abuse, or neglect, for over 12 years, representing both adults and children by their litigation friends.
Most claims I run in this area are brought against local authorities for a failure to remove a child from an abusive family home or foster placement resulting in a psychiatric injury. Other claims are brought against private schools, the church and sometimes individual perpetrators.
These claims are an important step in a survivor’s journey; not usually about the money, but about seeking justice, ensuring the individual has sufficient funds to seek good quality therapy and paying for education or re training to embark upon a career they would have built much sooner but for their injuries.
Each case is different and given the incredibly sensitive nature of the facts usually involved, requires specialist advice to minimise the impact the litigation itself can have on such vulnerable individuals.
