I work with deputies appointed by the Court of Protection to manage the property and financial affairs of individuals who lack capacity. I work with a variety of clients including children who have acquired a brain injury at birth and adults who have sustained a brain injury through accident or those who have an illness. I advise deputies to make best interest decisions daily in relation to client finances.

I am experienced in making the following applications to the Court of Protection; contentious and non-contentious deputyship applications, applications concerning an individual’s property, statutory will and gift applications.

I also act for Trustees appointed under a Personal Injury Trust where the client has been awarded a financial settlement as a result of an injury.

Career Highlights

  • Successful application for a Statutory Will for client who received £2.5m in damages for an injury at birth.
  • Numerous deputyship applications, both contentious and non-contentious, to appoint professional and lay deputies.
  • Completing property adaptation project for client with hydrotherapy pool.
  • Successful application to revoke deputyship order where the client was assessed as regaining the necessary mental capacity to manage his own property and financial affairs. Maintaining a good professional relationship which resulted in the client appointing partners of the firm to manage his personal injury trust.
